I stayed at A Piece of Ground for seven nights, in the "Hot & Sweaty" bunk room on the ground floor. Even in the June swelter, my room was cool (and very clean), and even though I was the only guest for most of my stay, the owners kindly left the AC on high in the kitchen and common room. The steady wifi was an added convenience.
The third-story restaurant, with its panoramic view of Punta Gorda and lush Toledo beyond, was my a wonderful place to chat with the amiable owners and excellent cook over generous portions and icy drinks. They're also working on a fourth-floor bar, which is going to be beautiful when it's done!
There are hammocks everywhere, beautiful hand-made wooden furniture in the restaurant, and cheerful paint on every wall. This hostel is set back from the town proper, so it's peaceul and low-traffic all day, and at night, the only noises are the geckos and the rain. They kindly offer an inexpensive laundry service, and they are extremely knowledgeable about how to experience Toledo without breaking the bank.
I travel extensively, and I can unequivocally say I've never stayed anywhere as relaxing (and affordable) as A Piece of Ground. I would recommend it to anyone, and I thank them for a wonderful week!
